Robby's Fall & Rise

In 1970, MGM sold the original Robby to the "Movie-World" museum in California where, over the next few years, he deteriorated rapidly (mainly due to the attacks of souvenir hunters).

Fred Barton had created his own Robby replica which he displayed for the first time at the 1974 Star Trek Convention in Los Angeles. When "Movie-World" found out about the replica, they commissioned Barton to restore the original Robby. Eventually, however, the museum closed down, and Robby was sold to a private collector where he remains today.

In addition to starring in Forbidden Planet and The Invisible Boy, Robby (or his replica) made many other appearances (albeit many of them are just 'cameos'):
