Marvin, the Paranoid Android
(from 'The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy')

Poor old Marvin... the most paranoid, depressive (and often depressing) robot of them all (or as Arthur Dent put it, not so much a robot "... more a sort of electronic sulking machine"). Marvin was, of course, a product of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation:

The Encylopaedia Galactica defines a robot as a mechanical apparatus designed to do the work of a man. The marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation defines a robot as 'Your Plastic Pal Who's Fun to Be With.'

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as 'a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes', with a footnote to the effect that the editors would welcome applications from anyone interested in taking over the post of robotics correspondent.

Marvinisms

"I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed."

"I'm not getting you down at all am I ?"

"Here I am, brain the size of a planet and they ask me to take you down to the bridge. Call that job satisfaction ? 'Cos I don't."

"You watch this door. It's about to open again. I can tell by the intolerable air of smugness it suddenly generates."

"'Let's build robots with Geniune People Personalities,' they said. So they tried it out with me. I'm a personality prototype. You can tell, can't you ?"

"Pardon me for breathing, which I never do anyway so I don't know why I bother to say it, oh God I'm so depressed."

"...and then of course I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left hand side..."

"...funny, how just when you think life can't possibly get any worse it suddenly does."

"Do you want me to sit in a corner and rust, or just fall apart where I'm standing ?"

"Life... loathe it or ignore it, you can't like it."

"Don't pretend you want to talk to me, I know you hate me."

"I only have to talk to somebody and they begin to hate me. Even robots hate me. If you just ignore me I expect I shall probably go away."

"Hardly worth anyone's while to help a menial robot, is it ?... I mean, where's the percentage in being kind or helpful to a robot if it doesn't have any gratitude circuits ?"

"This is the sort of thing you lifeforms enjoy, is it ?"

(After an extended wait for his companions:) "The first ten million years were the worst, and the second ten million years, they were the worst too. After that, I went into a bit of a decline."

"It's the people you meet in this job that really get you down."

"The best conversation I had was over forty million years ago.... And that was with a coffee machine."
