This 26-episode series was a follow-on to The Avengers, with John Steed assisted by two new avengers, Purdey and Gambit. Though the storylines were in a similar vein to many of those in the original series, the New Avengers' popularity never really reached the same heights.

The Last of the Cybernauts...?? (1976)

While being pursued by the New Avengers, double agent Kane dies in a fiery accident... or so they think. Horribly disfigured by the accident and confined to a wheelchair, Kane learns the secrets of the dreaded Cybernauts and finds a way of inhabiting a Cybernaut body in order to exact his revenge.

This series was similar in format to the much more well-known The Twilight Zone, although the latter was much more science fiction-orientated. Each episode featured a different story, as represented by a painting in the 'night gallery'.

A professor gives his students some very strange final tests to determine if they can 'graduate' and take their places in the world. But all of the students (and the professor and his assistants) are in fact androids, intended to take over an Earth on which the human population has been decimated by war, famine and plague.
