The Earth Dies Screaming (1964) Click for IMDb info. Go to film web site.

Robots (controlled by aliens through a transmitter) invade London, and kill people by touching them. The robots then resurrect their victims as zombies. An American test pilot destroys the transmitter and the day is saved.

Egghead's Robot (1970) Click for IMDb info. Go to film web site.

A boy programmes a look-alike robot to impersonate him in situations where brawn, rather than brain, is needed.

The Electric Servant (1909) Click for IMDb info.

The third of the "Professor Puddenhead's Patents" series. A comedy short in which the Professor's invention - an 'electric servant' (what we would now call a robot) - is 'borrowed' and misused by his son and daughter.

The Electric Vitaliser (1910)

An eccentric scientist uses electricity to 'activate' a shop dummy.  (This is not a 'true' robot film, but I believe it's an interesting forerunner.)

The Empire Strikes Back/Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Click for IMDb info.

The second of the original Star Wars trilogy. Luke Skywalker trains with the Jedi master Yoda and faces his enemy Darth Vader, eventually discovering that Vader is his father, and that Princess Leia is his long lost sister. (The film features a number of robots: click on the PROOF link above for more information.)

Encounter in the Third Dimension (1999) Click for IMDb info.

A professor, together with his flying robot M.A.X., outlines the history of 3-D effect films.

Escape from DS-3 (1981) Click for IMDb info.

A man sent to a high-tech prison for a crime he didn't commit plans his escape. (I'm sure this sounds familiar.) The prison is hardly 'barbaric'; its facilities even include female sex-droids (called 'pen pals') for use as surrogate conjugal visits.

Eve of Destruction (1991) Click for IMDb info.

Eve is a military robot, a look-alike of her scientist creator and programmed with her creator's memories. When she is damaged during a test, Eve gets lost in the city, and the memories from her creator's darker side start to surface, leading her to cause havoc with her super strength. The rescue team must find her before she sets off a nuclear bomb with which she is armed.

Evolver (1995) Click for IMDb info.

A virtual reality game comes to life and one of America's best players of the game gets the chance to play against a robot version of the game for real. As Evolver is programmed to win at all costs, the player realises he is playing for his life.
